Shetland Shawl Update
Page,
The Shetland Triangle Shawl is off the needles! It seems very small in spite of my adding additional pattern repeats and increasing the edging by 4 rows. I hope that blocking will help make it a usable size. It really did turn out rather well even if I do say so myself.
BTW, I found a tool my mother had given me years ago very useful in getting the beads on the shawl. It dates to the era of WWII when women wore silk stockings that were not only expensive but hard to come by. So some ingenious soul created a tool specifically for the purpose of mending runs or ladders. It is basically a very small crochet hook with a wooden handle and a latch to cover the hook while holding the thread in place which would help in mending something a delicate as silk stockings. Using it the way I did for beading my shawl, the shank holds several beads at a time making it a little faster to put beads on the yarn. Here's a picture of the tool:
Did you get a chance to celebrate the WWKiP Day? If we hadn't had so many errands to run today, I would have been tempted to go to Fibersmyth in Woodstock to join whatever activity they had going on. Oh well, maybe next year we can go knit in public together.
We are experiencing a series of thunderstorms here in Bryce today. Can't complain because the new plants are getting a good soaking.
Love,
Mom

Forgot to add that I did not get a chance to KIP yesterday. I drove out to Chestnut Hill with Bee and got my haircut. Mo was there and we went to a cool playground and lunch. It was a nice time for sure. I have a bit of a cold so was wiped out afterwards. Next year for sure!
Hey Mom,
How cool that you have finished your shawl and are pleased with how it looks. I bet that blocking will help its size just because the nature of lace is so loose and stretchy even in cotton. Look forward to your finished piece. I got my welding wires but haven't had any time to block my shawl yet. Maybe this week sometime.
