Stitch markers

in

Page,

I've started the fingerless gloves for your brother and needed stitch markers that would work on size 2 needles. Needless to say, the ones I got from my mother are somewhat too large. So, I decided to try my hand at making my own. Here is the result:

As you can see from the comparison, they are quite a bit smaller than the standard ones. I used a size 8 needle to wrap the wire around and it is about the perfect size for the size 2 needles without stretching the fabric between stitches.

That's about it until I get the fingerless gloves finished.

New Yarn Chest

Dear Page,

I decided I needed to get more organized about my stash and while your dad and I were shopping at Crate and Barrel we came across what I think is a nearly perfect place to store my yarn....

As you can imagine, it took me a while to collect the yarn stashed in various places around the house and get it bagged for storage. But I really like having it visible and in one place. I'd even forgotten some of the yarn until it was unearthed again.

Seeing it all makes me reconsider any new yarn purchases until I've made significant progress on the projects that I have planned and purchased for.

Reed Lace Shawl

Dear Mom,

Well I finally finished my Reed Lace Shawl (Ravelry link) in Elann's Silken Kydd (oddly I can't find any link to this yarn on their website currently) in Winter White and Rum Butter. Very nice yarn and pattern. It is warm and cozy and the yarn is luminously shiny. I blocked it using my welding wires which took some time but was well worth it. They gave me a nice straight edge with only a handful of pins.

I have also made a little progress on the Fair Isle cardigan for Bee, but I need a lot of concentration to work on it. So the second sock is on the needles and makes pleasant evening knitting. Next time I'll try doing two socks at a time just for fun. Bee wants some socks to match her daddy's so that will be fun!

Shetland Shawl Update

Page,

The Shetland Triangle Shawl is off the needles! It seems very small in spite of my adding additional pattern repeats and increasing the edging by 4 rows. I hope that blocking will help make it a usable size. It really did turn out rather well even if I do say so myself.
